Hello 12 Minis in 12 Months friends! This is Kristina Brinkerhoff from Center Street Quilts and it has been so fun sewing along with you in 2023. As you know, the February 12 Minis in 12 Months pattern is called Heartburst and includes two separate heart block patterns: a traditional version and a foundation paper piecing version. If you browse the #12minisin12months23 hashtag on Instagram, you’ll see Heartburst blocks in so many fun fabric combinations made into mini quilts, added onto zipper pouches, and even appliquéd on sweatshirts (such a cool idea)!
For my own Heartburst quilt blocks, I turned one into a mini quilt, one into a quilted pouch, and one is
still hanging out unfinished waiting for a brilliant idea to strike.
I took the traditionally pieced Heartburst quilt block, layered it with batting and a backing, and quilted it
with simple straight lines to turn it into a mini quilt: perfect for hanging on the wall, using as an oversized mug rug, or as a tiny doll blanket (I have three daughters, so my mini quilts frequently get repurposed as doll blankets!).
The 6” x 6” foundation paper piecing Heartburst quilt block that I pieced made the cutest Bristol Pouch
(the Bristol Pouch pattern can be found here.)
And the teeny tiny 3” x 3” FPP Heartburst quilt block that I made is waiting around for a future project. At the top of the idea list is a circular mug rug, another zipper pouch, or keep it for the epic sampler quilt I’ll eventually make with my pile of FPP blocks.
If you’re interested in the process behind any of these blocks or projects, head to my Instagram account
@centerstreetquilts where I’ve shared several videos
showing how I made each one.
Thanks for sewing along with us for 12 Minis in 12 Months this year!
Kristina
